After parts of the region saw the first accumulating snow of the season, temperatures are expected to stay bitter, with Winter Weather advisories beginning to be issued early in the afternoon on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
Frosty temperatures are expected through Wednesday night, with wind gusts approaching 15mph to 20mph in parts of the area, forecasters say.
A "Freeze Warning" has been issued by the National Weather Service, with a "Gale Warning" along the Eastern Shore.
Weather officials advised that homeowners should "take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
"Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing."
Following the cold spell, forecasters believe that temperatures will begin heating up heading into the weekend, with highs hovering in the 60s and lows in the 40s.
